Michael Herrington scores 20th career O'Reilly SUPR Sprint Car victory while Todd Rogers tops Mississippi Modifieds!

Baton Rouge, Louisiana (May 7, 2005) – Michael Herrington claimed his 20th career O’Reilly SUPR Sprint Car feature and his third win of the season at Baton Rouge Raceway Saturday night.  Herrington grabbed the lead at the start of the race and was not to be stopped as he outraced Shane Morgan and Terry Vidrine to take the win.  Herrington also regained position of the championship point lead with the victory edging by Vidrine 499 to 492 after four rounds of racing on the 2005 O’Reilly SUPR Sprint Car Series.

Herrington started the night off by winning his heat race and he just kept setting the pace up front.  He competition for the lead in the early stages was an old nemesis, 2002 O’Reilly SUPR Sprint Car Champion Butch David and David proved to be as fast as Herrington around the Baton Rouge Raceway oval but unfortunately for David, his recent string of bad luck continued when he exited early while running second.

Shane Morgan of Gulfport , Missisippi then took over second position but he was unable to run down Herrington, who by that time had built a sizeable lead over the remaining competition.  Morgan was in solid control of second as the checkers waved with Terry Vidrine kept the battle for the 2005 O’Reilly SUPR Sprint title close with another solid top three finish.  Vidrine has finished in the top three in each of the first four features with a victory, a second and a pair of third place finishes.

David Kountz finished fourth and continued a solid early season that finds the Mobile area in the top five in points despite missing the season opener.  Kountz finished ahead of Lincoln Gatwood of Laurel, Mississippi who also continues to impress in his rookie SUPR Sprint Car season.

Seavy Clemmons, Harold Henderson, Mark Roth, Cary Farmer and Billy Gunter rounded out the top 10.
