Dupuy returns to stake his claim on BRR SUPR Sprints!
Baton Rouge, Louisiana (July 3, 2005) – Michael Dupuy hasn’t raced all year but he sure hadn’t forgotten his way around Baton Rouge Raceway where he stormed off to his first O’Reilly SUPR Sprint Car win of the season. Dupuy driving his own Sprint Car dominated the feature outrunning perennial SUPR Sprint winner Michael Herrington for the win. Dupuy rolled to the front right at the start and nothing could stop as the race went 25-laps caution free with Dupuy lapping all but the top five finishers. Michael Herrington scored another solid finish to strengthen his lead in the battle for the 2005 O’Reilly SUPR Sprint Car Championship. Terry Vidrine, Herrington’s nearest competitor in the race for the title, finished just behind Herrington with Shane Morgan and Harold Henderson rounding out the top five. 15 O’Reilly SUPR Sprint Cars were on hand with Dupuy and Vidrine claiming the heat race wins. 24 MS. Modified were divided into three heats. Todd Rogers, Shane Hebert and Noah Dasput shared the heat wins. Richie Ginn started on the pole Hebert on the outside. As the green flag waved off turn four Shane Hebert shot into the lead. As the field came around off four Todd Rogers got sideways and about a third of the field pile into each other like dominos. 23 started that first time. On the restart they had 18 left. Rogers was sent to the rear on the restart. They had a complete side by side restart and this time before they could make a lap 4 piled up off two. This time they restarted single file with Shane Hebert on the point. Another pile up brings out the yellow. On the restart it was Shane Hebert again. Before the race Jason Taylor and Kevin Dupont walked the whole track and decided to set their cars up loose and run up by the wall. They did and both cars were flying. Taylor took over the lead followed by Shane and Donnie Hebert. Dupont up high would pass two and three cars in the turns until he broke an upper control arm sending him to the pits. Shane Hebert was right on the leader Taylor. Donnie Hebert and Richie Ginn ran wheel to wheel for third lap after lap. Todd Rogers who had to go to the rear after the first yellow was slowly threading the needle in and out picking off his competitors one by one. Coming down the back straightaway the leader Jason Taylor blew an engine. Shane Hebert went on to take the win followed by Donnie Hebert second, Richie Ginn third, Noah Daspit fourth and Todd Rogers made a long trip from the rear to finish fifth.
Kevin Philips got his first win in SIMS by winning the first heat. Damien Acosta took the second heat. Philips on the pole for the feature, but it was Acosta from outside the front row that took the lead followed by Philips and Matt Holmes. Acosta and Philips pulled away from third place Vance Noland. Noland had his hands full with Billy Smith trying to take third from him and he finally succeeded, but by this time Acosta and Philips had half the track over Smith. Acosta went on to take the win followed by Philips, Smith, Noland and Wayne Ward.
Daniel Jessup won the heat for street stock and started from the pole. Christian Rodeman blasted into the lead. No one could catch him and he took the win. Jeremy Dubois took second from Jessup and finished there. Jessup third and Gary Pettit fourth.
Jason Truax and Donovan Romero shared heat wins in Pure Stock. Romero took the early lead on the start of the feature followed close by Jason Truax, and Eric McAllister. The front three put distance in the rest of the field. Lap after lap in the turns Truax got a nose under the leader Romero and on the straight away Romero had the lead. Steve Hardesty spun off four at the same time cars piled up in two. After the yellow Jason Truax had the lead with Romero in tow. The rest of the race Truax had his hands full with Romero under him. Truax was able to hold off anything Romero had for him and scored the win. Romero second, McAllister third, Kent Maher fourth and Chris Crowe fifth.
