Open letter to our racers and fans

January 28, 2005

Racers and Race Fans

The 2005 racing season is fast approaching and I wanted to let you know what’s been going on during the off season and what you can expect in the upcoming season.

We started off last season on Friday nights and was closed when special events were run at Pike County , Pike decided to close on weekly shows, so we decided to make Saturday nights our regular racing night and still honor any special events held at Pike by closing.  Between the weather and being closed we
could never let you the racer or fan know when we were racing.

Some of you may ask?  “Why did Baton Rouge switch to Saturdays?  In the past as long as Baton Rouge Raceway could survive on Friday’s this would mean that I could go and race on Saturday’s but due to economic and changing times there had to be a change in order to keep operating the track.  I’m putting my racing aside and making Baton Rouge Raceway my first priority.  I know most of you don’t know me personally and only here me talk at the track and it’s probably short and to the point.  I do listen to what you have to say, you might not think I’m listening at the time but I am and there is a time when I can study what you’re saying and make a decision or improve on a particular area.

In 2005 our regular racing program will be on Saturday nights starting at 7pm .  We will only be closed on one occasion and that will be April 16th for the NGK Shootout at Texas Motor Speedway and the reason is because we will be operating the dirt track for Texas Motor Speedway featuring the SUPR late models and legend cars.  We invite you to this event and the Nextel Cup race on Sunday the 17th.  For information go
to www.texasmotorspeedway.com.

With the changes to the track in 2004, I want to commend you the racer for making an exciting program for the fan to watch.  It was not follow the leader racing or a crash fest but some of the fastest and best door to door racing around.  During the off season I’ve refined a few of the problem areas and it will be even faster
and more exciting to race on.

We are going to put a major effort in making racing fun and letting each and everyone be competitive and not just for the one’s that can spend the most money.  This has become the norm at all race tracks over the last few years.  That was brought to my attention by starting a new class for 2005 the limited modifieds.
I have never had so much interest and number of cars being built in all my years of racing as this class.  This is a positive for racing and it’s due to the rule structure.  The racer is now thinking I can be competitive because of the motor and the type of car don’t let money control the class.  I want to assure each and everyone the rules will be enforced.  We will have a tech inspector checking and working with you to put all classes back in order.  We will be working with the other classes as the year goes on to get them
back within reason so the classes will grow.

We will have a point fund for each class in 2005 and there will be a banquet at the end of the season.  I want to thank you if you raced or was a spectator at Baton Rouge in the past, we are going to put a major interest in making racing fun and entertaining for everyone.

I welcome any suggestions where we can work together and make racing fun and grow.  Our first race will be Feb. 26th & 27th with practice on Friday night Feb. 25th.  The first points race will be on March 26th along with the annual Easter egg hunt for the kids.

Remember one thing - Baton Rouge Raceway is where the fast guys race and are competitive wherever they go.  I hope your one of the fast guys or girls!!! And if you’re having problems or questions about racing all you have to do is ask and I’ll be glad to help if I can.

I promise I will not bite.

Sincerely,

Donald Watson
