Herrington tops O'Reilly SUPR Sprints once again!
Baton
Rouge, Louisiana (April 2, 2005) – The O'Reilly SUPR Sprint
Cars were blessed with a solid field of race cars with 22
O’Reilly SUPR Sprinters on hand and a well-prepared
multi-groove race track but the end result was familiar,
Michael Herrington, Jr. was in victory lane for the 19th
time. Herrington,
the two-time defending O’Reilly SUPR Sprint Car champion is
undefeated after two events this season and for three races in
a row, dating back to last year’s season finale held at the
same track as tonight’s races, Baton Rouge Raceway. Herrington
started the feature on the outside pole and survive a trio of
restarts that first saw pole sitter David Kountz, who was sent
back a row for jumping the second start, and then Lincoln
Gatwood each attempt to outrun Herrington at the drop of the
green but neither was able to keep Herrington from grabbing
the lead. And
once Herrington had the lead, he was not intending on
relinquishing it. Herrington
was able to maintain his hold on the lead throughout the
25-lap feature as lapped traffic only aided his efforts,
placing lapped cars between Herrington and Lane Whittington on
restarts. Whittington
battled to second but was unable to get a clear run on
Herrington to challenge for the lead and was forced to settle
for second. Terry
Vidrine would stake claim on third with Official

Tudy Jackson, Eric McAllister and Justin Bowman shared the pure stock heat races. On the start of the feature down the front straight away it was Justin Bowman and Eric McAllister wheel to wheel till Bowman pulled into the lead followed by McAllister in second and Chris Crowe in third. Yellow flew when two tangled in four causing a complete restart. This time Bowman and McAllister ran wheel to wheel an entire lap till Bowman moved into the lead. Eric McAllister and Jason Truax battled side by side for second while the leader Bowman pulled away. Kent Maher came off four and nailed the front wall head on bringing out the yellow. On the restart Justin Bowman walked away while Jason Truax, Eric McAllister and Scotty Womack ran three wide for second. Womack moved into second and set his sites on the leader Bowman. Bowman went on to score the win followed by Womack, Truax, and Tracy Talbert took over fourth from McAllister who finished fifth. Todd Hazel street stock heat winner sat on the pole for the feature. On the drop of the green Hazel blasted into the lead. Jason Jackson ran second and Jason Wilks third. Off turn four Jackson blasted past Hazel like he was shot out of a cannon. Jackson went on to take the win. Hazel second, John Edmonston third, Craig Cunningham fourth and Wholgamuth fifth. The new SIMS Modified class is growing and putting on a good show. I think by the middle of the season it will be the largest class. Westmoreland took the heat win and earned the pole for the feature. Tommy Cannon started on the outside front row. Westmoreland and Cannon ran wheel to wheel for a lap for the lead till Westmoreland pulled into the lead. Cannon second and Matt Holmes was coming on strong in third. Under the flag stand Cannon took over the lead from Westmoreland. On the front straightaway something happened to third place Matt Holmes his car died with a small puff of blue smoke then started again. Holmes started in the rear on the restart and ran smoothly to work his way back to the top five and ran out of time. Tommy Cannon took the win, Westmoreland second, Joe Simeon finished third first time in Sims car, 3J fourth and Matt Holmes came back up from his trip to the rear to finish fifth. Chris Cassano and James Ward share the heat wins for UMP. For the feature Jerry Cassano started from the pole and son Chris on the outside. Three laps into the race Darron Carroll spun in four and collected another car. On the restart it was James Ward leading. Ward went on to score the win followed by Jerry Cassano115 David Harris and Darron Carroll. Late Model heat winners were Jimmy Noland and Bill Gordon. The feature was caution free. Noland took the lead and went on to score the win. 15 took second, Elizabeth Halpin Smith third, Bill Gordon fourth and rounding out the top five was Randy Blanchard.
