Ward and Dupont lead "3j" sweep in Late Model and UMP action


Baton Rouge, Louisiana (March 26, 2004) - James Ward returned to victory lane at Baton Rouge Raceway for the first time in the 2004 racing season.  Ward won his heat race and then beat fellow heat winner Kevin Watts to the point at the start of the feature.  Ward lead every lap to take the win with Randy Blanchard moving by Watts to claim second.  Watts spun while battling with Blanchard but recovered to charge back to finish third ahead of Jason Polite and Eric Courville.

 

Kevin Dupont recovered from a roll over during last week's Mississippi Modified race and put his car in victory lane in UMP competition.  Jerry Dale Dugas took the UMP heat race win but it was Scotty Covington who took the early lead in the feature.  Covington led Dugas and Kevin Dupont early but Dupont was able to work his way to the front of the pack to take the win followed by Covington, Dugas, Darron Carroll and Chad Williams.

 

Rocky DeGruy claimed his second Street Stock win of the season as he got by heat race winner Mark Montgomery and then held off Jason Wilks for the win.  Montgomery finished third ahead of Tommy Cannon and Jody Vicknair.

  

Justin Bowman remained undefeated in Pure Stock feature action as he claimed his third win of the season.  Bowman and Tim Moran shared heat race wins but it was Bowman to the front in the feature and he was followed by Fred Hastings early and then Eric McAllister moved up to challenge but he couldn't catch Bowman.  Hastings held on to third followed by Moran and Cliff Welch.

 

Billy Joe Gordon won heat and feature for Super Stock.

 

Dustin Watts and Micky Joiner once again topped the Cruisers in their big black Lincoln.
