A Look at SUPR 2001

BATON ROUGE, LOUISIANA (January 12, 2001) - Southern United Professional Racing and O’Reilly Auto Parts are proud to announce the 2001 O’Reilly SUPR racing schedule. The 35-race schedule will see the series travel to 12 tracks highlighted by first time visits to North Central Arkansas Speedway in Flippin, Arkansas and Mid-Delta Speedway in Ruleville, Mississippi and Salina High Banks Speedway in Salina, Oklahoma. In addition, the O’Reilly SUPR series will be returning to Jackson Motor Speedway in Jackson, Mississippi and to Southwest Arkansas Speedway in Murfreesboro, Arkansas.

The season will kick off in true South Louisiana style with the 2nd Annual O’Reilly Auto Parts Mardi Gras Nationals on February 23rd at the newly lengthened Baton Rouge Raceway. Now a 3/8th-mile track, Baton Rouge Raceway is the home of the O’Reilly SUPR Series. The parade of Late Models will keep rolling the very next night at Pike County Speedway in McComb, Mississippi with the second leg of the O’Reilly Auto Parts Mari Gras Nationals. O’Reilly Auto Parts has added a $1000 bonus to the Late Model driver that can win both nights.

After a short time off to recover from the Mardi Gras madness, the O’Reilly SUPR Late Models will roll back into action as the O’Reilly NCRA competitors pay a return visit to Baton Rouge Raceway on March 30th for the 2nd Annual O’Reilly NCRA/SUPR Challenge Series. The O’Reilly NCRA/SUPR Challenge will continue the next night at Boothill Speedway in Greenwood, Louisiana as the season gets into full trot. Boothill Speedway will also play host to the O’Reilly SUPR Late Models on May 26th for the Memorial Day Shootout, on June 23rd and finally on September 1st for the Labor Day Blowout.

The O’Reilly NCRA/SUPR Challenge will resume on May 18th a site to be announced before making a first time visit to Salina High Banks Speedway in Salina, Oklahoma. Further details on the O’Reilly SUPR/NCRA Challenge will be posted on the O’Reilly SUPR Racing Web Site when they are finalized.

The O’Reilly SUPR Late Models will then travel to North Central Arkansas Speedway in Flippin, Arkansas on Friday April 6th to face the O’Reilly MLRA competitors in the O’Reilly SUPR/MLRA Challenge. The SUPR drivers will then head to I-30 Speedway for the first of 3 visits to the historic -mile facility in Little Rock, Arkansas. The O’Reilly SUPR Late Models will return to I-30 Speedway for 2 shows on June 15th and 16th and then again on September 15th for the 3rd Annual Arkansas State Championships.

Lone Star Speedway will host the first of 5 O’Reilly SUPR Late Model events on April 21st. The series will return to Lone Star on June 2nd and July 7th before returning for the 10th Annual Armadillo Nationals on August 3rd and 4th. The final 2001 O’Reilly SUPR event at Lone Star Speedway will be the Texas State Championships will run on September 29th. Thunder Valley Speedway in Glenmora, Louisiana will spring to life with the first of 4 O’Reilly SUPR Late Model Events on April28th. The cars will return on May 27th for the Memorial Day Blowout, on June 30th, and September 2nd for the Labor Day Blowout.

May 5th will see the start of the 3rd Annual Magnolia State Championship Series at Pike County Speedway. The 3 race series will crown the 2001 Magnolia State Champion. The second leg of the Magnolia State Championship Series is set for July 14th with the final race slated for August 11th. The top 2 in the Magnolia State Champion Series will have a guaranteed starting spot in the 5th Annual Jambalaya 100 set to run on October 12th and 13th at Pike County.

May 12th will see the return of the O’Reilly SUPR Late Models to Jackson Motor Speedway after a year off. The series will return to Jackson once again on July 28th.

The O’Reilly SUPR Late Models will pay two visits to Southwest Arkansas Speedway in Murfreesboro, Arkansas, a track the series last visited in 1993. The first visit will be on June 9th and the second event will be on September 8th.

Queen City Speedway in Meridian, Mississippi will play host to two O’Reilly SUPR events this year with the first visit set for July 21 and the second visit set for August 18th. The O’Reilly SUPR Late Models will make one last visit to Mississippi, as Mid Delta Speedway in Ruleville, Mississippi will host the O’Reilly SUPR Late Models for the very first time on August 25th.

The 2001 O’Reilly SUPR Series will come to close at the track were it all began 8 months earlier as Baton Rouge Raceway will host the 2001 Louisiana State Championship and the GRT Top Qualifier Dash on October 19th and 20th.
