Rain Held off After Three Rainouts in a Row
July 13, 2001 After suffering three rain outs in a row tonight with thunder and lightning all around mother nature gave Baton Rouge Raceway a break. At 6:00 they had a shower that lasted about 20 minutes and after that it was okay. Stacy Buecker , Mark Hardwick and Zane Barcelona took the heat wins for pure stock. On the start Butch Jenkins took the lead followed by Barcelona second and Beucker third. Jenkins lost a wheel and broke an Axel and wound up in the wall in two ending his night of racing. Off of turn four Bo Garig took over the lead from Barcelona. Leaders piled up in four, Barcelona, Prather, Darrell Guy and Mark Tate. On the restart nit was Bo Garig leading. Darrell Guy moved into second. Bo Garig went on to score his first win of the season at Baton Rouge Raceway followed by Darrell Guy, Mark Tate, Zane Barcelona ,and Tim Moran.
Chad Williams and Jeff Martello shared the heat wins for UMP. Chad from the pole took the lead on the start. Bobby Semple ran third and Jeff Martello fourth. Martello took second from Semple. Williams drifted high in two and Martello passed for the lead. Martello took the win followed by James Ward, Chad Williams, Bobby Semple and Michael Connell.
Todd Hazel and Scooter Paetz took the heat wins for street stock. The two drag raced wheel to wheel an entire lap till Hazel got the lead followed by Paetz and Vicknair. Randy Jamison broke and Axel and lost a wheel in two bringing out the yellow. On the restart it was Hazel again. Vicknair pulled out of the race to the pits. Jason Wilks moved into second and went after Hazel. Wilks got beside Hazel and they shared the lead an entire lap till Wilks took over the lead. Scooter Paetz moved into second behind Wilks and the two pulled several car lengths away from third. Wilks took the win, Paetz second. Marshall Arnold, Dolan Foyer, and Todd Hazel.
Scotty Covington took both heat and feature wins for mini stock. Wesley LaFluer finished second, Donna Everett third and Melvin Sibley fourth.
Jerry Bevis and David Ashley took top honors in late model heats Jerry Bevis lead from Green to checkered and took the win. Ashley ran second, but couldn't reel Bevis in. Jason Polite took third, followed by Gene Commas fourth and rounding out the top five was Kevin Watts.
Cole Gordon won the heat for yard Karts and Dwight Falcon Jr took the feature.
Lance Jenkins took the heat win in Go Karts and Clint Duplessis.
